"Casuals don't understand somebody like Klay Thompson when I said, 'He never improved to me'," Arenas told Memphis Grizzlies center Xavier Tillman. "You came in as a spot shooter, and even though you have four championships, you're still a spot shooter. Versus someone who's like 'Okay, they might need me to do something else and I need to have that skillset."
In context Arenas was talking about Memphis Grizzlies guard Desmond Bane and how much he has improved.
If you're just looking at the Thompson in comparing to Bane part of the comment then maybe it makes sense, but then again it doesn't.
Thompson never needed to be the best player on the team, he always filled his role and did exactly what the Warriors needed him to do.
Which is why he has been instrumental in the four championship runs during the Golden State dynasty.
To say he hasn't improved his game or evolved from just a 'spot shooter' is just false.
Thompson has an All-Defensive second team selection and for a long time was known as one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA.
Unfortunately, as Thompson was entering his prime, he dealt with some devastating injuries and the basketball world hasn't seen him return to his previous form.
With Thompson struggling everyone is seeing it as great opportunity to criticize his game.
People can't forget that Thompson has also broken some records and gave us incredible feats to marvel at including NBA record of most three-pointers in a regular season game (14) and most points score in a single quarter of a regular season game (37).
Washington Wizards Rookie Bilal Coulibaly is Gathering League Wide Attention from Impressive Play
Thompson has won four NBA championships, been named to the All-Star team five times and has two All-NBA third team selections.
Klay Thompson is one of the greatest three-point shooters to ever touch the court and whatever criticism people have of his current game is fine, but he should still be remembered by some of his greatest moments.
