Once a player’s name is called on draft night, they’re already looking to get into some action. We saw it last night in the NFL Draft. The emotion is all over an athlete’s face. There are so many feelings involved. Some are happy, proud, excited, and nervous all at the same time. That explains the tears of joys that fall from an athlete’s eyes when the Commissioner calls their name on draft night.

In the NBA, Johnny Davis didn’t have to wait long as he was drafted #10 overall in the 2022 NBA Draft. This was a spot where he expected to get drafted so you can say that things worked out for Johnny as far as the draft goes. Going to a contender puts a ton of pressure on any player, yet alone a rookie. It’s hard to win and be successful in the NBA night in and night out. As great as LeBron James and Steph Curry are, they both only have four NBA Championships.

If there was a grade to give Johnny Davis for his rookie season in the NBA, it would have to be a C+. Early on in the season, he had A LOT of DNP’s. Maybe the Wizards wanted to give him some observation hours. Perhaps he wasn’t playing well during practice. Or maybe he didn’t commit himself defensively. It could be a lot of reasons behind it. He spent a ton of time in the G League where he averaged 12 PPG.

In the NBA, he only averaged 6 PPG. However, those numbers are misleading as he got the green light late in the season. Over his last five games, Davis averaged 17 PPG, 6 RPG, 4 APG, and 1 SPG. That is who Johnny Davis truly is as he was simply getting garbage time early on in the season. For him to have limited time, not play much early on in the season after being drafted in the top ten, bounce around from the G League to the NBA throughout the year, and still finish the season out so strong earns him a C+ for the season. There is some promising hope with Johnny Davis.
