Kristaps Porzingis Deal Finally Gets Done
No doubt, watching the Wizards play last season was a treat simply because of watching what many consider a Unicorn in Kristaps Porzingis. In fact, many felt that Kristaps Porzingis was the best player on the Wizards last year. He does a lot of things well! His ability to score the ball is top notch. He’s one of the league’s best shooters. At 7’3, He may be the league’s best big man who can stretch the floor. Not only can he shoot the ball well, he can put the ball on the floor as well. He has a strong post game as well. But what’s really nice is his ability to move his feet on the perimeter defensively and his shot blocking ability. Porzingis is special. It was fun while it lasted in Washington but they had to ship him off with the rebuild that is happening now. Here are the trade details:
Celtics Receive: Kristaps Porzingis, 2023 & 2024 1st Round Picks
Wizards Receive: Tyus Jones, Danilo Gallinari, Mike Muscala, #35 Pick (2nd Round)
Grizzlies Receive: Marcus Smart
This trade was an interesting one. Originally, the Grizzlies weren’t involved and neither was Marcus Smart. Instead, it was the LA Clippers and Malcolm Brogdon where Marcus Morris would have been going to the Wizards. That trade fell through because of the health of Brogdon. This trade actually works out better for the Wizards. Tyus Jones is one of the league’s most coveted point guards as he has been a backup throughout his career but plays well as if he is a starter. He will finally get that time to shine now in Washington.
Despite the Wizards finding their point guard of the near distant future in Tyus Jones, the Celtics have won this trade. The Wizards can’t seem to win a trade it appears. However, they are playing the long run game as they have cleared A TON of cap space with every deal. The Celtics never seem to surprise us. They are truly one of the best front offices in the league. The fact that they acquired the best player in this deal along with not one but two first round draft picks is really impressive. Despite having to give up the heart and soul of the team in Marcus Smart, this trade was easily won by the Boston Celtics.
