NBA Star Kevin Durant Shares Thoughts On Wizards Move To Virginia
This week’s hot topic in DC Sports was the announcement that Monumental Sports plans to move its professional basketball team Washington Wizards and professional hockey team Washington Capitals to the Potomac Yards area located in Northern Virginia. The announcement has been met with varying reactions from fans and a last-minute attempt by DC to try to keep both teams playing on their current home court/ice, Capital One Arena.
NBA All Star Kevin Durant, a native of the Washington DC Metropolitan area, was recently asked by the media his thoughts on the news that the Washington Wizards are moving to Virginia. Durant had this to say about the move:
“I think it would mean everything to the city. I think t’s still going to be DC’s team. VA is like right there on the border. I think fans will still have access to the team and come to watch the games. But the better venue with more activities around is only better for the city.”
As Inside The Wizards Staff Writer David Harrison shared in his report on the move, the project is not fully green lit, however as more red tape needs to be cut, it’s looking more likely than that D.C.’s NBA and NHL franchises will soon call Virginia home with the most likely landing date coming in 2028.
REPORT: Wizards Leaving the District, Moving to Virginia
While this news is a blow to a Washington D.C. mayoral leadership team that believes all the professional sports team in DC should call DC their home, the possibility of an entire entertainment venue for fans from all over is quite enticing.
Inside The Wizards will keep readers informed as this will be a hot topic for the foreseeable future.
