Realistic Expectations For Johnny Davis

What Can We Realistically Expect From Wizards Guard Johnny Davis?

The NBA Season is long! Some say that the league should consider shortening it’s season to keep everyone’s sanity. We’re already seeing a lot of load management, especially to star players unfortunately. It’s not easy being on the road for the majority of the season. A lot of these players have families including children. Those circumstances stand rather a player is considered a veteran or even a rookie. That is the case for Washington Wizards Rookie Guard Johnny Davis.

This season has been a roller coaster for the rookie guard out of Wisconsin. He has spent a ton of time in the G-League playing for the Wizards G-League affiliate, the Capital City Go-Go. There, he has averaged 12PPG, 4RPG, and 2 APG to go along with 1 steal per game.

Often times in life, some may take a bit longer to develope into their roles at their new jobs. The training period is different for everyone and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. An employer would much rather have one continue to develop in an extended period of time rather than to bring one out into the wolves when they’re not ready and have failure being the inevitable.

The other night against the Detroit Pistons, the Wizards managed to get a much needed victory to improve their chances at the playoffs. The truth of the matter is that while it was good to see them get the win, many felt like it was even better to see Johnny Davis play well in that win. Davis scored 11 points on 5-11 shooting to go along with 5 rebounds. He got to the free throw line and made his only attempt there as well.

His performance brought many smiles to many faces as this has been something we all have been waiting for all season. The real question is what are the real expectations for Johnny Davis?

Well, he stands at 6’5 with a slim but built body frame. He has quick feet and can keep up with anyone on the floor. He can guard 1-3 and truly is a defensive minded guard. Offensively, he isn’t a lights out shooter from beyond the ark. His bread and butter is putting the ball on the floor, attacking the basket and getting to the free throw line. That allows him to become a playmaker as well. He also has a nice mid range game too as he continues to extend his range. He is a true athlete as he has shown his ability to run the fastbreaks quite well. Johnny Davis can be compared to Steve Smith who had his best years in Atlanta and Miami. Smith was a bit of a late bloomer. However, he had a fantastic career and contributed to winning. Johnny Davis also has a bit of Larry Hughes in him. Hughes too had a great career and was a highly coveted player for many years. Johnny Davis will be around for awhile.
