Upon news that the Lakers received former Washington Wizard forward Rui Hachimura via a trade in late January, NBA Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal publicly shared on the TNT postgame show that he did not know who he was. Still unknowing of Rui Hachimura, O’Neal even went as far to say he would’ve been impressed if the Lakers traded for Wizards All Star Guard Bradley Beal. To dig even further, O’Neal has also said "If you ain't a top-10 player, I don't know who you are … I'm not watching the Bullets or the Wizards.”

Ouch.

Well, we all make mistakes. The right thing to do is acknowledge the mistake was made and apologize. That’s exactly what Shaq did. He apologized to Rui for not knowing who he was. Take a listen to exactly what Shaq had to say now that Rui is in a Lakers uniform.

We’re going to completely skip over the part that Shaq still calls the Wizards, the Bullets.

It was great to hear Shaq acknowledge all of the great attributes we all know on the Wizards side of town that Hachimura has. Shaq’s comparison of Rui to Rick Fox is a great one.

The Inside the Wizards Staff are all too familiar with Rui Hachimura covering him during his time in Washington. Check out some of the articles about him if you still need to brush up on what this former Wizard now brings to the Los Angeles Lakers table.
