Phoenix Suns guard Bradley Beal made connections that will last a lifetime during his 11 years with the Washington Wizards.

It showed after his long-awaited return to Washington, where he reconnected and swapped jerseys with forward Deni Avdija, a player he mentored during his last three years with the Wizards.

"Deni has taken a step man, he has gotten a lot better" Beal said of Avdija post-game. "Sky is the limit for him, he will just continue to get better."

Avdija certainly has taken a step in the right direction this season.

The former lottery pick is posting career high numbers this year averaging 12.7 points per game on 51.2 percent shooting.

"He's a big body, can shoot it and he is a willing defender," Beal continued on Avdija's game. "I hope he continues to keep his head down, stay humble and keep working."

His shooting from three-point range is what has taken the biggest leap this year, going from 29.7 percent last year to 39.1 percent this season.

That is an incredible leap and speaks to the work that he is putting in.

Avdija gets a lot of heat for not performing up to some Washington fans standards on what the ninth overall pick should be doing.

The heat comes in hot, especially considering that he was drafted before Indiana Pacers All-Star guard Tyrese Haliburton.

As long as Avdija takes the advice of his former teammate and friend, he will keep improving and be a Wizard for a long time.

And maybe even one day he will be regarded in the same breath as Beal.
