The True Washington Wizards
This has been a long season for the Washington Wizards. There were a fair share of ups and downs. However, there were a great amount of standout moments for this team. There were moments and times when you wondered just how good this team truly can be. One game in particular stood out to me on the season.
This game took place on February 14, 2023 in Portland as the Wizards took on the Blazers. This game was close to a sellout at a 93% capacity in attendance. With so many in the building, the Wizards had no choice but to play their best game of the season. What’s worth noting is the fans got their money’s worth despite the home team losing because the Wizard’s Big Three all played in this game.
The Big Three played extremely well. Bradley Beal dropped 19 points as he shot close to 50% from the field and Kristaps Porzingis was dominant as he shot 66% and had a double double with 28 Points to go along with 12 Rebounds. We know Kristaps Porzingis is a bit of a unicorn when healthy and he showed us how great he can be all season long this year. He really is one of the best Centers in the East.
Both Bradley Beal and KP were great in this game, but Kyle Kuzma stole the show for the Wizards. One thing the Wizards need to address is three point shooting. Kuz was in his bag as he got hot and kept letting it rain behind the ark. Kuzma drained six threes in this game and really set the tone for the entire team. The team shot over 50% from three while they were able to hold the Blazers to under 30%. This was a game where the Wizards buckled down defensively as well as they nearly held the Blazers to under 100 points total. As the Wizards defeated the Blazers 126-101, this game became a moment where we had the opportunity to see just how good this Wizards team can truly be.
