Three Impressive Stats By The Wizards Last Night
Last night may have been one of the most important games of the season for the Washington Wizards. They were already on a four game losing streak and nobody wanted to see them make it to five. They were falling behind in the standings and that needed a change too. Last night, the Wizards defeated the Charlotte Hornets. This was a game where LaMelo Ball made a statement and said he was the best player on the floor last night. He finished the game with 34 points to go along with seven assists.
However, it was Kyle Kuzma and the Wizards who had the last laugh as Kuz finished with 33 points. Aside from Kuzma leading the way to victory, here are three reasons why the Wizards were able to win this game.
1. Daniel Gafford’s Defense
Despite being a somewhat undersized Center in the league, Danny continues to shine on the defensive end. Playing against Joel Embiid the other night, he had five blocks. In this win over the Hornets in limited minutes, he showed up again with two blocks in just 13 minutes. Kuddos to Gafford as he is only getting better defensively.
2. Wizards Shared The Rock
They say team work makes the dream work. This was certainly a factor in this game for the Wizards getting this much needed win on the road. The Wizards had five players with three or more assist. Those players included Deni Avdija, Kyle Kuzma, Corey Kispert, Delon Wright, and Tyus Jones who they need to put the ball in his hands a little bit more as he is one of the best facilitators on the NBA.
3. The Bench Played Extremely Well
When you get hot from downtown early in a game, you’re pretty much setting your staple for the game then at that very moment. It’s hard for teams to come back from large deficits early on in the game. The goal should always be to outscore your opponent. But when you outscore your opponent from the three point line, that really changes the odds. The Wizards made 18 threes as the Hornets were able to make just eight. Kuzma made four threes in this game but the reserves really led the way! Corey Kispert scored 12 points with two threes, Danilo Gallinari had 18 points with four threes, Delon Wright had 18 points as well with two threes, and Landry Shamet finished with 15 points with three threes. Impressive performance by the bench!
