TOMMY SHEPPARD RELEASED AS PRESIDENT & GENERAL MANAGER OF THE WIZARDS
Today, the Washington Wizards announced they have relieved President and General Manager Tommy Sheppard of his duties.
Sheppard has been with the organization since 2003. He was appointed as the General Manager In 2019.
Statement from Ted Leonsis, Founder, Principal Partner, Chairman & CEO, Monumental Sports & Entertainment said the following:
Tommy Sheppard was relieved from his duties as General Manager and President of the Washington Wizards. Failure to make the playoffs the last two seasons was very disappointing to our organization and our fans.
A search for new leadership will begin immediately for an executive from outside the organization.
I would like to thank Tommy for his dedication to the Wizards organization and wish him the best in his future endeavors.
In Tommy Sheppard’s end of season media availability, he started his press conference off with sharing how disappointed he was in the season. He specifically talked about wanting more from the players and needing to see more wins. He repeatedly said that the goal for the season was to make the playoffs. As owner, Ted Leonsis said in his statement, this was the second consecutive year that the Wizards failed to make the playoffs.
