Wizard’s GM Tommy Sheppard said it best in his exit interview: “It has been a disappointing year.” Yes, the Washington Wizards finished the season 35-47 ending up in 12th place in the East. Truthfully speaking, that’s not going to get the job done and everyone should be walking around on eggshells because the entire team fell short this season.

The Washington Wizards have a long list of things on their to do list. But the real question is where to they begin? What should be first on their list to scratch off?

Well, the very first thing they need to figure out is taking a really long, deep, and thorough examination of their roster and even coaching staff. It was already reported that Head Coach Wes Unseld Jr. will be returning as Head Coach next season. Many people may be questioning that decision but we have to look at the big picture. Kristaps Porzingis only played 65 games this season, Kyle Kuzma played in 64, and Bradley Beal only played in 50. They have no choice but to give Wes Unseld Jr. the benefit of the doubt here.

But what about the rest of the roster? If the Wizards are smart, they would revamp this entire roster. They need to make a decision of Kristaps Porzingis and Kyle Kuzma first and foremost. You have Bradley Beal locked up for many years to come. However, Kuzma and Porzingis are set to hit the open market as they both have player options this summer.

After they determine if that Big Three will return, they need to take a look around at the other guys. Often times, the number one question an employer may ask is if you have job experience. The Wizards need to look and make sure everyone has playoff experience. This is where that scouting department comes into play. They should be tuned in and fully engaged into the playoffs. If the goal is to make the playoffs, having playoff experience won’t hurt. The Wizards should look into acquiring players that perform well this postseason, particularly at the Point Guard position. If the Wizards can make this a priority on their to do list, then they will start their offseason off on the right foot.
