This Washington Wizard Quietly Had A Great Season
If you wanted to sum up the season for the Washington Wizards, some will say it was a disaster. Others may say it was disappointing to see so much potential on this team as we all watch them come up short in making the NBA Playoffs.
We sometimes are quick to look at the star of the team or even the co-star. Then we may look at the rotation players and supporting cast. In all honesty, everyone played well individually the majority of the time. One player that truly stuck out was Delon Wright.
The case for Delon Wright shows up on wins and losses as well as performance overall. The moment Delon Wright went down with the hamstring injury, things went south for the Washington Wizards. They immediately went on a three game losing streak and his absence was felt.
Wright only appeared in 50 games this season, but he definitely made the most out of his time on the floor. As a matter of fact, he shot a career high from the field at 47%. He was able to stretch the floor at times and aggressively attack the basket too. That worked in his favor because he was efficient from the line shooting 87% there. But it didn’t end there. Delon Wright was one of the Wizards best perimeter defenders as well as he led the team with two steals per game.
The Wizards as a team simply were a better team when Delon Wright was healthy and available to play. In him limited role as a reserve role player, one can only imagine what his numbers and impact would look like if he was given a larger role for this team. He has bounced around the league over the years as he has played for six different teams in the last six seasons. It truly feels like he’s found a home in Washington. Great season for Delon Wright!
