The start of a new era is close to beginning to in Washington with the Wizards. Head Coach Wes Unseld Jr. has returned to a brand new cast of players. There isn’t a Bradley Beal at his disposal any more. Kristaps Porzingis is no longer here either. The only one of the Big Three of last season that remains is Kyle Kuzma. No question, he is the leader of this team. What he does on both sides of the ball is huge for this team. He has been the most consistent Wizard from last season’s team. With that being said, who will be the most important player for the Washington Wizard?

Kyle Kuzma will play a key part this season. The Wizards will depend on him a lot this season. Jordan Poole will also play an important role with this team as well. The Wizards traded for him for a reason. But the Wizards traded for Tyus Jones for a reason too and he will be the most important player for the Wizards this season.

While in Memphis with the Grizzlies last season, Tyus Jones was asked to step up a lot in games that All Star Ja Morant didn’t play in. As a starter last season, Jones averaged 16 points per game to go along with eight assists and two steals each game. The Grizzlies continued to win even with their “backup” point guard leading the way. With numbers like that, the question that begins to get asked is why was he a backup?

The Wizards and their scouting department as well as front office shoot give themselves a pat on the back in acquiring Tyus Jones. Now that he is their starting point guard, Jones will have a chip on his shoulder because he should have always been a starting point guard. The Wizards always needed a starting point guard. Trading for Kendrick Nunn turned out to be the wrong move as he is still a free agent at the moment. Tyus Jones could have a similar jump to what we seen in Jalen Brunson last year with the New York Knicks. He was showing signs of greatness playing behind Luka Doncic. Now that he is the guy, he is a borderline NBA Allstar. Tyus Jones is set to have a breakout season this year as he is the floor general the Wizards need.
