Wizards Acquire Former MVP
This year’s NBA Trade Deadline has been one that will truly be remembered. Kevin Durant was traded. Kyrie Irving asked to be dealt from the Brooklyn Nets as well. Russell Westbrook got his wish. The list truly goes on. However, there were crickets with the Wizards. While a trade didn’t happen at the deadline, the Washington Wizards surely have been busy post deadline.
Sometimes, you have to look beyond what you see. This requires quite a bit of work for everyone within the organization. This requires one to think outside the box and to also think long term. You have to think about the benefits now and how great the reward will be in the future. Tommy Sheppard and the Washington Wizards did just that as they made a deal yesterday that is surely to be an under the radar type deal.
The Washington Wizards have signed Xavier Cooks of the Australian Basketball League. Cooks played college ball in South Carolina for the Winthrop Eagles where he won the 2018 Big South Player of the Year Award. Going un-drafted in the 2018 NBA Draft, he decided to sign with the Sydney Kings of Australia where he won a championship for them last year while being named the MVP as well. He also won the Regular Season MVP Award for them this season.
Xavier Cooks is a true story showing that dreams do come true, but only if you continue to grind and put in the work. Cooks is a 27 Year Old, 6’8 defensive high flying wing can facilitate due to his eye of seeing the court extremely well.
The Wizards look forward to having Cooks in their rotation as he will be coming soon as he is finishing up the championship series over in Australia. Xavier Cooks is signed for the rest of this season as well as next season. The Wizards may have found a gem in this MVP.
