Several league sources have confirmed the Minnesota Vikings and Bernard Berrian have reached an agreement on a multiyear contract.

The deal is believed to be a six-year deal worth $42 million, with $16 million in guarantees. Berrian, who led the Bears with 71 receptions for 951 yards in 2007, was considered one of the top available receivers on the open market; and his signing gives the Vikings a legitimate big play threat on the outside.

Berrian has a career average of 14.6 yards per catch, and his six receptions of more than 40 yards ranked third among NFL receivers in 2006. His addition to the Vikings' lineup gives Tarvaris Jackson an effective counter to the eight-man looks defenses used to slow down Adrian Peterson and the Vikings' top ranked rushing attack.
