The Bills beat the Oilers 41-38 in what is still regarded as the greatest comeback in NFL history. The Oilers led Buffalo 35-3 in the third quarter before the Bills scored five consecutive touchdowns, four thrown by backup quarterback Frank Reich. Steve Christie kicked the game-winning field goal in overtime to cap the comeback.

Buffalo blanks favored San Diego 23-0 for its second straight AFL championship and the last of the pre-Super Bowl era. Butch Byrd breaks game open with 74-yard punt return in second quarter. The Chargers, who had scored 54 points in two regular-season games vs. Bills, never advance past Buffalo 24-yard line.
