Super Bowl Media Day Over The Years

Super Bowl Media Day is when the press will pretend to cover players and coaches, who, in turn, will pretend to shed light on the issues of the day while also taking videos with their iPhones, clowning with credentialed ''reporters'' dressed up as superheroes and dodging the occasional wedding proposal. It is, at best, entertainment disguised as journalism, though not all of it is worthless or totally unmemorable. Since Super Bowl 50, players now address the media on Monday night at an event known as Super Bowl Opening Night, instead of the traditional Tuesday afternoon Media Day.

1981

Reporters talk to Raiders defensive end John Matuszak at the New Orleans Airport Hilton in Kenner, La., before Super Bowl XV. Oakland defeated Philadelphia 27-10.

1982

Bengals rookie Cris Collinsworth answers questions before Super Bowl XVI. The wide receiver would go on to catch five passes for 107 yards in a losing effort.

1984

The media attempts to talk with Redskins running back John Riggins at Super Bowl XVIII Media Day in Tampa. The game turned into a nightmare for Riggins and his teammates, who lost to the Raiders, 38-9.

1985

Joe Montana answers questions at Super Bowl XIX Media Day at Stanford Stadium. The 49ers defeated the Dolphins 38-16, led by Montana's 331 passing yards and three touchdowns.

1986

Jim McMahon is the center of attention at Super Bowl XX Media Day in New Orleans. The Bears ran roughshod over the Patriots, 46-10, and McMahon finished the day with 12 completions for 256 yards.

1988

1988

1989

Ickey Woods (center) shows off his famous dance to reporters as his teammates join in on the fun. Woods ran for 79 yards in a 20-16 loss to the 49ers in Super Bowl XXIII.

1991

Buffalo Bills players leave a grandstand cheering during Super Bowl XXV Media Day. They weren't cheering a few days later as they fell to the Giants, 20-19, before 73,813 fans at Tampa Stadium.

1992

Redskins defensive end Charles Mann compares muscles with MTV's Julie Brown at Super Bowl XXVI Media Day in Minneapolis.

1995

San Francisco cornerback Deion Sanders answers questions during Super Bowl XXIX Media Day in Miami. Prime Time had one interception in San Francisco's 49-26 victory over San Diego.

1997

Brett Favre talks to reporters in his shades during Super Bowl XXXI Media Day. Favre threw for 246 yards and two touchdowns in Green Bay's 35-21 win over New England.

1998
