The Tennessee Titans upgraded the interior of their offensive line on Tuesday by plucking Andy Levitre off the market. About 24 hours later, they upgraded up front on defense, too, signing former Lions DT Sammie Lee Hill to a three-year deal worth a reported $11.4 million ($4 million guaranteed).

Standing 6-foot-4 and 330 pounds, Hill had been a valuable member of the Lions' D-line depth chart since 2009. He graded out as their fourth best defender last season in Pro Football Focus' metrics, with only Ndamukong Suh, Nick Fairley and Chris Houston ahead of him.

Hill is not much of a run defender, but he does do a nice job collapsing the pocket on passing downs.

The Titans will add Hill to a nice collection of young defensive tackles -- Jurrell Casey, Karl Klug and Mike Martin all were drafted by Tennessee within the past two years. Hill likely will jump into a rotation with some combination of those players, no doubt seeing the majority of his work on passing downs.

Still just 26 years old, Hill might benefit from increased playing time. He has not played regular snaps since his rookie year, on a 2-14 Detroit team.
