Sharrif Floyd was long thought to be an option for the Oakland Raiders at No. 3 overall. Star Lotulelei once was considered an option for the Chiefs at No. 1.

They both were on the board when the New York Jets came on the clock for the second time at No. 13 Thursday. Instead of nabbing either guy, New York rolled the dice on Missouri DT Sheldon Richardson, an athletic if undersized DT/DE combo.

In terms of pure talent, it's not hard to see why Rex Ryan might have wanted Richardson. He has a terrific burst off the line and, with Muhammed Wilkerson, Quinton Coples and Antonio Garay already on the 3-4 depth chart, Richardson gives Ryan some options.

This gives New York a cornerback (Dee Milliner) and defensive lineman with their two high first-round picks. That's a long way from the offensive line/outside linebacker/wide receiver possibilities that many thought the Jets would consider.

Grade: C-plus.
