Colts owner Jim Irsay has become one of the more fascinating NFL follows on Twitter. His oft-mysterious updates create a team website -meets-the Almost Famous script vibe. He was pretty to the point Monday afternoon, though, when he apologized to the Indianapolis fans for his team's 44-20 preseason loss to Buffalo on Sunday.

Falling by 24 points at home never sits all that well, but preseason results are about as meaningless as they come. The Colts pulled starting QB Andrew Luck after just two series, and backup Matt Hasselbeck took a seat following an interception early in the second quarter. Most of the Colts' other first-teamers followed Luck to the bench in short order, too.

And, for all that, Indianapolis still had a 13-6 lead midway through the second quarter, before Marquise Goodwin ripped off a 107-yard kick return and E.J. Manuel led a scoring drive before halftime. Buffalo then outscored the Colts 24-7 in the second half.

Perhaps it was the effort over the third and fourth quarters that so angered Irsay. The Colts' lone second-half points came on a 72-yard fumble return by Daxton Swanson. Other than that, Indianapolis generated next to nothing, be it on offense with third-string QB Chandler Harnish; or on D, where the Colts were mostly picked apart by Buffalo's No. 3 QB, Jeff Tuel.

Still, this is all pretty irrelevant. The Colts have three more preseason contests -- at the Giants, vs. Cleveland and at Cincinnati -- before their regular-season opener against Oakland.
