Tom Coughlin believes he should be considered for Pro Football Hall of Fame

New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin rarely talks about himself and will generally do what he can to keep the conversation and focus on his team, but during the NFL meetings in Orlando earlier this week he briefly discussed his own legacy.

While Coughlin admitted it doesn't dominate his thoughts, he did say that he believes he deserves some consideration for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

“You want to be the very, very best you can be,” Coughlin told Gary Myers of the New York Daily News. “If the highest point in recognition in our game is the Hall of Fame, then why not think about that? Do I think about it every day? No."

Coughlin has captured two Super Bowl championships as head coach of the Giants (and one as an assistant) and thinks those titles put him in the conversation for the Hall of Fame.

“I think it merits consideration, yeah, but that’s as far as I’m going. I don’t think about it every day. I’d rather think about getting a group of players together that we can coach to win a game. That’s where I am. Just one year, one game. Let’s take care of today.”

When you look at Coughlin's résumé, it is hard to deny that he deserves Hall of Fame consideration.

Coughlin served as a longtime NFL assistant with the Philadelphia Eagles, Green Bay Packers and under Bill Parcells with the New York Giants, before heading to the college ranks and eventually returning to the pros as head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Giants.

He has racked up a 158–130 regular-season record and 12–7 postseason record during his coaching career.
