Running back Andre Brown to visit with Houston Texans

The loss of Ben Tate has left a significant hole in the Houston Texans backfield, especially given starting running back Arian Foster's injury history, so the team is looking for a relatively cheap replacement.

Enter Andre Brown, formerly of the New York Giants, who visited the Texans on Monday and agreed to terms on a deal with the team, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle.

Currently backing up Foster is a less-than-inspiring collection of running backs, including Dennis Johnson, Deji Karim and Jonathan Grimes. Brown, a spark plug on the field, is a much better option than any of the three aforementioned talents, though Brown doesn't come without his own injury history.

Coming off broken legs in two consecutive seasons, Brown has struggled to stay healthy but has produced when he's been on the field. Despite playing only eight games in 2013, he paced the Giants' rushing attack with a career-high 492 yards on the ground.

The 27-year-old Brown posted a 5.3 yards per carry average in 2012 and hammered in eight touchdowns in just 10 games, though his rates dipped in 2013 as he averaged just 3.5 yards per carry before injuries ended his season.
