Just days after the Tennessee Titans asked Kamerion Wimbley to restructure his deal, the defensive end has agreed and signed a new three-year, $9 million contract with the team, according to Adam Caplan of ESPN.com.

Wimbley was scheduled to earn $19.5 million over the next three seasons, including a $6 million base salary, but sub-par play and tight finances forced the Titans to ask the veteran to take a pay cut. Wimbley recorded only three sacks and saw his playing time dip in 2013, his second year with the Titans.

The former Florida State product spent the weekend pondering the team's request and eventually decided that it was best to accept the restructured deal, considering the likely alternative was being released.

The new deal will also come with a position change to outside linebacker for Wimbley as the Titans shift to a 3-4 defense ahead of the 2014 season. The money freed up in his new deal is expected to go toward adding pieces for the new defensive scheme through the draft and free agency.

After splitting his first six years as a pro between the Browns and Raiders, Wimbley signed a five-year, $35 million deal with the Titans in 2012 and earned $15.5 million during his first two seasons with the team.
