49ers RB Marcus Lattimore looking forward to competing with Carlos Hyde

There is no doubt that Frank Gore is the San Francisco 49ers starting running back, but they have a number of quality running backs behind Gore on the depth chart. Kendall Hunter, Marcus Lattimore and 2014 second-round pick Carlos Hyde fill out the platoon.

Last year, the 49ers selected Lattimore, who was coming off of a devastating knee injury that put an end to his collegiate career, and now he will have his work cut out for him if he wants to crack the team's running back rotation.

Instead of being discouraged by the added competition in San Francisco, Lattimore is ready to embrace it and he is looking forward to competing with the team's backups during OTAs and training camp.

"I look at [it] like it's competition," Lattimore told the team's official website. "Competition brings out the best in you. It brings out the best in every player in the backfield. We've got a group of great guys and we all want the best for each other, but at the end of the day, we all want to play.

"We're going to compete and we're going to bring the best out of each other and we're going to have a great backfield."
