The Seattle Seahawks placed a second-round tender on wide receiver Doug Baldwin, who was a restricted free agent this offseason, meaning he is set to make $2.18 million for the upcoming season. However, Baldwin has unveiled that he and the Seahawks are working on a deal that would keep him in Seattle past 2014.

Baldwin said that the Seahawks have come to him with a long-term offer, and he and his agent have countered the offer as discussions pick up.

“It’s going to take some time,” Baldwin said on KJR-AM, via The Seattle Times. “It’s just the process of going through the negotiations, that’s just what it is. … it’s still very early in the stages of the conversation and I don’t know how long it’s going to take. But hopefully we can get something done soon."

“If we are unable to reach an agreement I will sign the tender, play that out, and then be an unrestricted free agent (in 2015),” he said.

He said sitting out the season “would not allow me to pursue my passion for playing football. So sitting out does nothing for me. I’m going to play this season whether it’s on the tender or under an extension.”
