The Washington Redskins have been working hard to cast their team nickname in a positive light, and that resulted in a social media campaign last week that used the #RedskinsPride hashtag.

The response showed that there are still plenty of fans around the league who do not approve of the nickname, but that didn't stop the team from tooting its horn and claiming the social media campaign was an overall success.

“The social media is the way people get information now, and our fans have spoken very loudly in support of what we’ve been doing,” Redskins president and general manager Bruce Allen told Jason Reid of the Washington Post. “We got a very good response from our fans.

“Thousands of our fans responded, including hundreds of Native Americans, saying we are their favorite team. I do think that’s the message we’ve been hearing.”
