Report: Dallas Cowboys will release quarterback Kyle Orton
The Dallas Cowboys will release quarterback Kyle Orton, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Orton had served as Tony Romo's backup since 2012. He made his only start as a Cowboy in Week 17 last season, after Romo had back surgery. Orton was last a full-time starter in 2010 with the Denver Broncos, when he threw for 3,653 yards, 20 TDs and 9 interceptions.

The Cowboys had a surplus of veteran backup quarterbacks after they traded for former first-round pick Brandon Weeden and signed Caleb Hanie this offseason. Dallas also has undrafted rookie Dustin Vaughan on its roster.
