Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine said the decision on who will start Week 1 of the regular season will be made by the team’s third preseason game.

Brian Hoyer is the starter going into training camp, with rookie Johnny Manziel backing him up. The Browns play the St. Louis Rams in their third preseason game on Aug. 23.

"(A decision) could be sooner, and that's something we're going to discuss in that meeting," Pettine said, via the Akron Beacon Journal. "It'll be before the third preseason game. I just don't have a date. I don't know if I'll set a date and kind of paint ourselves into a date, but it will be sooner than the third preseason game."

Cleveland’s regular season starts Sept. 7 on the road against division foe Pittsburgh.
