Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon will appeal his one-year ban for violating the league's substance-abuse policy Aug. 1, reports ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter.

Gordon failed a drug test earlier this offseason, leading to the suspension. He also was arrested earlier this month in North Carolina on suspicion of DWI.

Gordon, 23, caught 87 passes for an NFL-best 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns last season despite missing the first two games due to a suspension for a failed drug test. His breakout season earned him first-team All-Pro honors.
