San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith will meet with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Aug. 8 and is "facing a significant suspension," ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

Smith was in Los Angeles yesterday for a hearing to close his LAX fake bomb threat case, in which he was never charged with a crime.

Smith was sentenced to concurrent 12-day jail sentences earlier this month for weapons and DUI charges. Instead of going to jail, Smith is participating in a work release program. He says he has been sober since leaving rehab last year.

Schefter also reports Goodell is scheduled to meet with Cleveland Browns receiver Josh Gordon and former Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent during the next week. Gordon's hearing to appeal a potential year-long suspension for failing a drug test is set for Friday.
