Johnny Manziel has "narrowed the gap" that once stood between him and fellow QB Brian Hoyer for the starting role on the Browns, according to a report on Saturday from Nate Ulrich of The Akron Beacon-Journal.

The 21-year-old former Heisman winner, who outperformed Hoyer on Saturday according to Ulrich, had been working exclusively with the Browns' second-team offense but executives and coaches plan to meet on Sunday to discuss when to begin giving him his first reps with the starters.

Assuming he continues outperforming Hoyer throughout training camp and the preseason, it's possible Manziel could be the Browns' starting quarterback for their Week 1 matchup against the Steelers in Pittsburgh.
