Buccaneers RB Doug Martin misses practice with ankle injury
Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Doug Martin missed Wednesday’s practice with an ankle injury, reports ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Martin hurt his left ankle in Sunday’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings and wore a walking boot as he observed practice. Charles Sims and Bobby Rainey will likely take over.
Martin, who was rumored to be traded to the Miami Dolphins before Tuesday’s deadline, played in five games this season, averaging 2.9 yards per carry. In his rookie year, the 2012 first round draft pick ran for 1,454 yards and 11 touchdowns. The following season, he was sidelined for most of the year with a torn labrum.
Linebacker Anthony Collins also sat out of practice with a foot injury, and wide receiver Vincent Jackson (rib) and defensive end Michael Johnson (hand) were limited.
• FARRAR: Even with defensive-minded Lovie Smith, Bucs' D still struggling
The Bucs have won only a single game this season under new head coach Lovie Smith. They play the Cleveland Browns (4-3) on Sunday.
