Cofield was placed on the short-term injured reserve list after suffering a high-ankle sprain in the Redskins' season-opening loss to the Houston Texans. He is eligible to return to action for the team's Nov. 16 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Cofield joined the Redskins in 2011 and had started every game over the previous three seasons. The 30-year-old has notched 304 tackles and 18.5 sacks over 128 games in nine seasons in the league.
