Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Mike Glennon said on Buccaneers Total Access on Tuesday that he was told that Josh McCown was expected to start Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.

McCown, who signed a two-year, $10 million deal with the Buccaneers in the offseason, began the season as Tampa Bay's starting quarterback, but has not played since he injured his right thumb in Week 3's loss to the Falcons.

From 620 WDAE:

"I met with [interim offensive coordinator] Marcus Arroyo and Lovie [Smith] this morning, and they decided that it would be best for Josh to go ahead this week and get the start," Glennon told T.J. Rives.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, head coach Lovie Smith said he considered putting McCown in for Glennon during Sunday's 22-17 loss to the Cleveland Browns. Glennon was 17 of 33 for 260 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.

"Whenever any position is struggling during the course of the game, you look at your options," Smith told reporters, "But I thought Mike would be able to come out of it."

In six games this season (five starts), Glennon has thrown for 1,417 yards, 10 touchdowns and six interceptions. In the three games before his injury, McCown threw for 420 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions.

Last season, McCown played in eight games for the Chicago Bears due to injuries to Jay Cutler, throwing for 1,829 yards and 13 touchdowns.

The Buccaneers are 1-7. The team's lone win came against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4, Glennon's first start of the season.
