Over 16 games this season, Bell has carried 290 times for a team-high 1,361 yards and eight touchdowns.
The Steelers released LeGarrette Blount in November and this week signed former Vikings and Browns running back Ben Tate.
The other running backs on Pittsburgh's roster are rookies Josh Harris and Dri Archer.
