Cardinals gain fewest yards in NFL playoff history vs. Panthers

The Arizona Cardinals had the fewest offensive yards in NFL playoff history vs. the Carolina Panthers on Saturday.

Playing with Ryan Lindley at quarterback in his first career playoff game, the Arizona Cardinals gained the fewest offensive yards in NFL playoff history during their 27-16 NFC wild-card game loss to the Carolina Panthers on Saturday.

The Cardinals gained 78 yards, averaging 1.7 per play. Lindley, starting in place of Drew Stanton for the third straight game, went 16 of 28 for 82 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions for a quarterback rating of 44.3. He was sacked four times for a loss of 31 yards, dropping Arizona from 109 yards to its record-low 78.

Arizona failed to match the previous NFL playoff low, set by the Cleveland Browns in 1958. Facing the New York Giants at Yankee Stadium, the Browns were held to 86 total yards in a 10-0 loss.

The Cardinals managed eight first downs, exceeding the Browns' total in that game by one.

The Panthers also limited the Cardinals to 27 rushing yards on 15 carries (1.8 yards per). Kerwynn Williams rushed 10 times for 23 yards, and no other Cardinals player rushed more than three times.

The loss ends Arizona's season after an 11-5 campaign that saw the team suffer injuries to quarterbacks Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton. The Cardinals reached the playoffs despite losing their final two regular-season games, allowing the Seattle Seahawks to clinch the NFC West.
