Packers coach Mike McCarthy's brother dies at 47
Joe McCarthy, the younger brother of Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy, died Wednesday, the team announced. He was 47.
According to Pittsburgh television station KDKA, McCarthy collapsed at a gym in Pennsylvania Wednesday morning. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The younger McCarthy was a lawyer and former Pennsylvania Deputy Attorney General.
Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy released the following statement:
“The Packers family was very saddened today to learn of the passing of Joseph McCarthy III, the younger brother of Mike McCarthy. Our sincere condolences are with Joe and Ellen, Mike and Jessica, and the entire McCarthy family.
“The McCarthy family appreciates the overwhelming support they have received, as well as the respect for their privacy, during this difficult time.”
Mike McCarthy was scheduled to meet with the media on Wednesday but his appearance was postponed after he learned of his brother's passing.
