Brett Favre: Aaron Rodgers 'by far' NFL's best quarterback
Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre thinks current Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is "by far" the best quarterback in the NFL.
Favre made the comments in an interview with Fox Sports 1.
"If you look at the combination of the whole package, I would say Aaron by far is the best," Favre told Fox Sports.
In acknowledging the Packers come-from-behind loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship, Favre said: "You don't get over those. If it really matters to you, and I know it does to Aaron, you just never get over it."
The three-time NFL MVP qualified his statement, however, saying that New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady deserves MVP honors this season after overcoming significant adversity.
"Now, that being said, Tom Brady I think should've been the MVP this year just based on how well he played considering the circumstances. I look at it not so much from a stats standpoint, but what you had to overcome and do throughout the year. I think Tom, of all his years, this is probably the year most people would've said, he shouldn't have been here. In fact, early in the season as you guys know, they were ready to send him off."
Favre is the NFL's all-time passing yards leader with 71,838. Notably absent from his assessment of the best quarterbacks in the game was Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, whose 69,691 yards are surpassed only by Favre himself, and whose 530 passing touchdowns are the most of any quarterback of all time.
Brady and the New England Patriots take on the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET.
