Devin McCourty headlines weak class of free-agent safeties
Need safety help? Don't look to free agency.
While there's talent at the position, little is likely to make it to the open market. A converted cornerback, Devin McCourty has emerged as one of the best safeties in the league. But in the wake of a Super Bowl title, New England is unlikely to let the quarterback of its secondary go, especially with the franchise tag available as an option. Other talents (Browns' Tashaun Gipson, Ravens' Will Hill, Rams' Rodney McLeod) are restricted, meaning they could be hard to pry away.
