Ex-Miami LB coach Micheal Barrow to take same job with Seahawks

Former Miami Hurricanes linebackers coach Micheal Barrow is expected to accept the same job with the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks, according to a source.

Barrow, 44, was on the same coaching staff at Miami with Brennan Carroll, the son of Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, from 2011-13. In August, Barrow abruptly resigned his position with the Hurricanes to take care of his ailing mother.

The younger Carroll resigned Monday as Miami’s wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator to join his father’s staff as an offensive assistant. Barrow replaces former Seattle linebackers coach Ken Norton Jr., who recently became defensive coordinator for the Oakland Raiders.

Barrow was an assistant for his alma mater, Miami, from 2007-13. He coached linebackers and special teams for his first six years before only overseeing linebackers his final season. Prior to his tenure with the Hurricanes, he was defensive coordinator at Homestead (Florida) High School in 2006. That was after he spent 12 seasons as a linebacker in the NFL, playing for the Houston Oilers, Carolina Panthers, New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys.

Barrow was a second-round pick of the Oilers in the 1993 NFL Draft. He played for the Hurricanes from 1988 through 1992, winning two national championships and finishing seventh for the Heisman Trophy his senior year.

Seattle had a 12-4 regular season record under Carroll this past season, advancing for the second straight year to the Super Bowl, where his Seahawks lost 28-24 to the New England Patriots.
