CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) The NFL has filed a petition in North Carolina court to have the protective order lifted from Greg Hardy's trial last July in which the Panthers defensive end was convicted on two counts of domestic violence.

Although the case against Hardy was dismissed Monday when he appealed, he still faces a possible suspension from the league.

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said Friday in an email that the league is asking the courts to allow them to inspect and copy all material from the original bench trial. The information is currently under seal until further order from the court.

The NFL is arguing in court documents that since Hardy's case has been dismissed, the files should be made available.

Hardy remains on the NFL commissioner's exempt list.
