Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson reported to training camp on Saturday to “MVP” chants, and said “it was a great welcome,” especially after last season.

Peterson only played in one game for the Vikings during the 2014-15 season because he was indicted on child abuse charges in Texas in September for allegedly hitting his 4-year-old son with a switch.

After the indictment, he was placed on the commissioner's exempt list. Peterson pleaded no contest to a count of misdemeanor reckless assault in November and was sentenced to probation.

Peterson was reinstated from the exempt list in April.

On Tuesday, the Vikings agreed to restructure the last three years of Peterson's contract to give him more guaranteed money.

As he arrived at training camp on Saturday, Peterson told Vikings.com that his goal is always to run for 2,500 yards, and if he gets close to that, ”that's not bad.”

Peterson ran for 2,097 yards during the 2012 regular season.
