The Cleveland Browns are hoping to recover from a 2014 season that saw them start 6–3 before going 1–6 in their last seven games, including a five-game losing streak to finish the season.

Cleveland tried to address issues on the offensive side of the ball by adding more established skill position players over the off-season, including veteran receivers Dwayne Bowe and Brian Hartline. Josh McCown, who played well in 2013 with Chicago but struggled with Tampa Bay last season, was named the team's No. 1 quarterback to open training camp, but head coach Mike Pettine wouldn’t guarantee that Johnny Manziel will not start in Week 1.

On defense, the Browns are hoping to shore up their run defense with the additions of Randy Starks and Danny Shelton—a 2015 first-round draft pick—along the defensive line. Cleveland also signed former Packers cornerback Tramon Williams to play opposite Joe Haden
