Cam Newton shoves teammate Josh Norman in practice, scuffle ensues
A scuffle broke out at Carolina Panthers training camp on Monday morning when quarterback Cam Newton shoved cornerback Josh Norman after Norman intercepted a pass thrown by Newton.
During passing drills, Norman intercepted Newton's pass, then ran it to the end zone as Newton chased behind him, reports Jonathan Jones of the Charlotte Observer. Newton pushed Norman once he reached the end zone. Norman pushed back, and the two players eventually had to be separated by their teammates.
“I bet you won't do it again,” Newton said as the altercation dissipated.
Linebacker and team captain Thomas Davis yelled that the fight was “stupid,” Jones reports.
Tension had been building between the two players since training camp began as the two repeatedly went head-to-head during team drills.
Norman and Newton are entering their fourth season as teammates. The Panthers drafted Norman in the fifth round of the 2012 NFL draft. Newton was the first pick in the 2011 draft.
