Buffalo Bills re-sign Matt Cassel as backup quarterback
The veteran quarterback returned to the Bills just days after the team released him.
The Buffalo Bills have re-signed quarterback Matt Cassel, the team announced Tuesday.
Just two days after releasing Cassel, Bills head coach Rex Ryan confirmed before Tuesday’s practice that the former-USC Trojan would serve as the team’s backup signal-caller ahead of 2013 first-round pick EJ Manuel.
In March, Buffalo traded a fifth and seventh-round pick for Cassel and a sixth-round pick from the Vikings.
Cassel was a seventh-round draft pick of the Patriots in 2005. He joined the Chiefs in 2009, and played the last two seasons in Minnesota.
Cassel played in three games in 2014 and accumulated a passer rating of 65.8.
