Jets’ Geno Smith practices in full, could be activated vs. Eagles
Jets quarterback Geno Smith ‘could be’ activated for this weekend's game against the Eagles, said head coach Todd Bowles on Wednesday.
Smith has been medically cleared and practiced in full Wednesday for the first time since breaking his jaw in a locker-room altercation with former teammate IK Enemkpali. He took reps with the scout team and is ahead of schedule on his original timeable. It had been thought Smith could be out until at least Week 6, though even if he returns Sunday, the odds of him seeing the field would be slim.
Bowles said Tuesday that Ryan Fitzpatrick will remain the starter when Smith returns, after leading New York to two wins in its first two games with 423 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions.
“Ryan is our starting quarterback right now,” Bowles said. “We’re doing well, we have good chemistry going and everything else and Geno understands that. And as we go, Ryan is our quarterback. We'll go forward from there.“
