NFL: Steelers’ Williams not allowed to wear pink year-round to honor mother

DeAngelo Williams lost his mother to breast cancer last year.

Pittsburgh Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams, who lost his mother to breast cancer last year, asked the NFL if he could wear pink apparel outside of just October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month and was denied the request, according to ESPN.

“He wasn’t able to do that, but what he did do is, he decided to streak his hair pink,” ESPN's Lisa Salters said on Monday Night Football. “He said breast cancer awareness is not just about October for [him], it’s not just a month, it’s a lifestyle. It’s about getting women to recognize to get tested.”

Williams dyed some of his hair pink as a member of the Panthers last season and will do the same for the remainder of this year. His toe nails are also painted pink and he displayed them during training camp by wearing flip flops while not on the field.
