Jets’ Nick Mangold doubtful for Sunday vs. Raiders, Calvin Pryor out
New York Jets center Nick Mangold is listed as doubtful to play against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday after sustaining a frightening neck injury against the New England Patriots last week, the team announced Friday.
Mangold was hit by Patriots linebacker Jamie Collins during the final minute of the game. He was motionless on the field before walking off and then being carted to the locker room. All X-rays and tests done on Mangold’s neck came back negative.
Despite the injury, Mangold said Thursday that he plans on playing in the upcoming game.
“I feel like unless I’m laying there bleeding out, I’ll be able to play. If things happen and I can’t play, I’ll deal with that at the time. Right now, I’m planning on playing,” he said.
Head coach Todd Bowles told Dennis Waszak of the Associated Press that Mangold will travel with the team and could possibly play on Sunday, but he is still feeling soreness in his neck.
Bowles also added that the team has not decided who would replace Mangold should he not be able to play. Dakota Dozier and Wesley Johnson are the two options to take over at the center position.
The Jets also announced that they will be playing without safety Calvin Pryor, who has not practiced all week due to an ankle injury.
