San Francisco 49ers waive former rugby star Jarryd Hayne
The San Francisco 49ers have released running back Jarryd Hayne.
The San Francisco 49ers have released running back Jarryd Hayne, the team announced Saturday. Running back Kendall Gaskins will take Hayne’s place on the active roster.
Hayne, 27, signed with the 49ers in March. He is a former MVP of the National Rugby League in Australia. Hayne quit the sport in October of last year to pursue an NFL career.
In six games this season, Hayne has carried the ball eight times for 25 yards. He also has one catch for seven yards. Hayne has spent most of his time at returner, returning eight kicks for 76 yards.
The 2–5 49ers play the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.
