49ers claim linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong from Raiders
The San Francisco 49ers have claimed linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong off waivers from the Oakland Raiders, the team announced Wednesday.
The Raiders had waived Armstrong on Tuesday. The 49ers placed defensive lineman Glenn Dorsey on injured reserve in a corresponding move.
Armstrong, 24, was investigated by police in Pittsburgh two weeks ago after he allegedly barked at a police dog during a game at Heinz Field against the Steelers. Charges were later dropped.
A third-year player out of Miami, Armstrong began the 2015 season as a defensive starter for the Raiders before being relegated to special teams. Last week against the Lions, he did not play a defensive snap.
He saw time on special teams for the St. Louis Rams in 2013 and 2014, before he was claimed off waivers by the Raiders last season.
Oakland travels to Tennessee to play the Titans at 1 p.m. ET Sunday.
